Since I first came to the city, the natural beauties keep taking my breath away. All the colors in the fall are something we would never see in a place like where I grew up. The smell of spring coming out of winter is exhilarating. The skyline at dusk and dawn are absolutely stunning with the different blends that we’re able to be in the presence of.

I’ve always known how lovely Jefferson City is, but spending a snow day at Sapphire Lounge will prove that it’s absolutely beautiful. If you can’t make it in the snow, grab a date and take in a sunset or watch a spring storm roll in. The food, cocktails, and incredible view make this a hometown trifecta any time of the year.

Lincoln University Athletics and Big Whiskey’s. Big Whiskey’s has some really good food — I could eat there every day!

Center Director, SBDC at Lincoln University

Jefferson City is the best place to raise a family. As a mother of two girls, I understand the importance of raising children in a safe and supportive community. Jefferson City is safe and has good schools, affordable housing, quality job opportunities, a supportive business climate,
and great people!

Binder Lake because of the hiking and biking trails, playground, but most of all, fishing!

Osage Bend is one of the most beautiful places that I drive through. It’s surrounded by the Osage River and has many great places to see it! Osage Bend offers Pikes Camp Conservation Access, the Historic Bolton Home, many old farmhouses, some great newer construction, and St. Margaret of Antioch Church atop the hill.

Executive Director,
JC Schools Foundation

Of course, I want to say the JC Schools Foundation! We lift up and champion the JC School District! Aside from that, I would say Saturday yoga classes at Ignite Fitness and Performance with Amy Lee.

The theatre community. JC has four options for theatre that appeal to different types of audiences. Not many people consider themselves theatre-goers, but people can become fans quickly. Each theatre is presenting performances that feature the other secret of Jefferson City: the talent that lives and performs here

Growing up, I watched many friends leave for bigger places and wondered if they would ever return. The majority of them have made their way back. The best kept secret is that this town knows how to make you feel welcome and be part of a community. I can’t imagine raising my kids anywhere else.

Quigg Commons. I never knew about it until our photographer, Tina Newton, recommended we meet there for our family photos. It’s a nice place for small outdoor gatherings and kids who want to play, and it has some tucked away, relaxing spaces. There’s a garden and it serves as a part of the Central Missouri Master Gardeners Club Demonstration Gardens.

Golf Underground. It’s a newer company that features golf simulators where you can play different golf courses around the world. My husband and I love to play golf in the warmer months, so we enjoyed going there in the winter to play.

Shelby Welling

Student, Capital City High School

Turkey Creek. It’s a great place to learn to play golf. My mom and I spent a lot of time out there this fall as I was learning to play golf, and I felt a lot less pressure since it’s just a par 3 course. There is also a mini golf course, and we enjoyed the covered golf range on those cloudy, rainy days.
