How do you define success?

Joe McFerron

Accomplishing the work and knowing that I did it the right way.

Brooke Reutter
Student, Helias Catholic High School

I define success as being better than you were the day before. If I can live my life each day trying to be better than the day before — and trying to inspire others to be the best version of themselves as well — I have succeeded.

Success is subjective. You have to figure out what is important to you and chase it. I have a note on my desk that reads, “How is life for those in your kingdom?” I define success by how well I can answer that question. Day to day, week to week, month to month.

Tim Tinnin
CEO and Founder, Red Slipper Warrior Project

My definition of extravagant is pretty simplistic: a Finding your passion and making a difference in other’s lives. For me, it was working to empower women and girls fighting cancer and finding new ways to support them. It’s a constant challenge to fund the work and stay on top of the requests, but it’s the most satisfying thing I’ve ever done.

Ashley Varner
Executive Director, JC Schools Foundation

This is best described by Ralph Waldo Emerson: “To laugh often and much/To win the respect of intelligent people/and the affection of children/To earn the appreciation of honest critics/and endure the betrayal of false friends/To appreciate beauty/To find the best in others/To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition/To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived/This is to have succeeded.”

Success is accomplishing what you want in life, whether it’s financial or educational or having as many kids as you want — a big or small family. As long as you are happy, that is all that matters.

Jennifer Wright
Therapy Director, Special Learning Center

Success to me is establishing meaningful relationships, striving to improve yourself, and persevering through challenges to live life according to your values and faith in God. Most of all, be happy!

Rusty Drewing
Owner, Drewing Automotive

Success to me is defined by how successful you make others around you.

I’m very lucky in life to be surrounded with talented, amazing individuals, and as a team, we are able to achieve success together. That is my definition of success — it has nothing to do with personal achievements, but what you accomplish together.
