Short stack with over-easy eggs, bacon and hash browns
It’s the City’s Best issue, and we’ve wanted to cover breakfast as “The Dish” for a while now. So what better time to celebrate Towne Grill, a staple of the community, as it placed among Jefferson City’s Best Breakfasts in the City’s Best poll?
Described by patrons as affordable, delicious and casual, Towne Grill is one of Jefferson City’s most authentic diner experiences that’s never gone out of style. Don’t let the misspelling in the sign — “Towne Grill: Food at it is best” (the owner is well aware of it, and he’s not changing it — the small parking lot or limited seating deter you. You won’t wait long. Sit at the counter or find window seating among regulars of cops, tradespeople, capitol businessmen and women who frequent during the week or small groups of friends, couples and families on the weekends.
This is a place where the owner and wait staff call the regulars by name. If the owner, Ryan, is working, ask him what to eat; otherwise, he recommends a strong cup of coffee, hash and eggs, crispy bacon and buttery toast along with a short stack of steaming blueberry pancakes, smothered with butter and maple syrup. Then relax as the friendly staff and lively cooks prepare your order. If you’re somewhat past breakfast, regulars rave about Towne Grill’s Philly-cheese omelet, meatloaf and burgers.
Take time to savor postcard-worthy pancakes, holiday greetings and hometown spirit amid the fogged-up windows etched with frost at Towne Grill this season. And lastly, be sure to congratulate Ryan and his staff on their City’s Best award!
