Your Own Way

When did your business get started? My first business was in landscaping, so I started out by doing landscaping for my boss, Kevin Riley at the time, co-workers, and other people I knew. Then I decided to quit my full-time job,and I would drive around looking for landscape work and make cold calls using the phone book. It all started with one business, and now I own 12.

Why did you decide to base your business in Jefferson City? I was born and raised in Jefferson City.

How do you define success/celebrate a win? I define success by paying my bills on time and celebrate by starting another business.

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur? Work hard, take chances, and keep investing in yourself.

What quote or motto do you live by? Live life like you drive your car, always looking forward.

What sets you apart from your competition? Our work ethic and the dedication we put into these businesses.

How did covid affect your business? I communicated with other small-business owners. We found a way to help each other as well as give each other advice.

Three words that best describe you? Driven, ambitious, and positive.

What are the advantages of being a business owner in Jefferson City? We have tons of support from the community and lots of helpful business knowledge.

Who are your biggest supporters? My mom and dad are probably my two biggest fans!

Do you have any advice for those just getting started? Set goals, work hard/smart, and continue to invest.

When someone is looking to hire a professional in your industry, what should they look for? I like to take the time to notice, do they really want to work or do they just want a paycheck and benefits from your business?

Do you use any entrepreneurial tricks to keep you motivated and productive in your day-to-day business schedule? I go to work at 4 a.m., seven days a week, to get ahead of my competition.

What are you most thankful for in your business? My dedicated and hard-working employees.
