Day Solutions Inc. and Day Solutions Foundation will honor 12 recipients, including seven adults with developmental disabilities, whose meritorious commitment to giving has earned them the President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award, recognized at a national level, is bestowed upon dedicated United States Citizens and volunteers who serve as inspirations to others by answering the call for service in their communities.
Day Solutions Foundation, or DSF, is a nonprofit organization that services teens and adults with developmental disabilities in the state of Missouri. A total of five volunteers, mostly local high school students, logged over 950 hours during 2017 in support of the organization’s mission. These outstanding youth dedicated their time and services to fundraising, program support, and creating economic opportunity. “As a passionate and emerging nonprofit, the unwavering support we have received from our volunteers is indispensable. Having the opportunity to formally recognize these role models of distinction is our honor,” said Tiffany Burns, foundation director. Day Solutions, Inc. is a day habilitation program which currently supports the needs of 32 clients. In 2016, the organization began coordinating onsite opportunities for clients to implement newly learned employment skills at local nonprofits. There are numerous clients who volunteer, and seven of those have devoted enough time to be worthy of Presidential honors. In October, six of the seven recipients were featured in the City Magazine Business Feature – Volunteer Impact. “Volunteering gives our clients such a grand sense of accomplishment. They are able to embrace acceptance in their community, while strengthening and improving personal skills for future employment.” said Danielle Schwartz, Day Solutions, Inc. Executive Director. The volunteer hours were conducted at the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, Southwest Early Childhood Center, Salvation Army, First United Methodist Church Fresh Start Market, Grace Episcopal Church, and Central Missouri Food Bank. The ceremony is sponsored by Central Investment Advisors Jeff Boessen and Leanne Kampeter. It will be held at Avenue HQ on July 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. Catering will be provided by The Blue Skillet. Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe and Rudy Veit, candidate for State Representative, District 59 will both attend to show appreciation for the guests of honor. Both are longtime supporters of the developmental disabilities community and career long volunteers themselves. Each honoree will be presented with a personalized certificate, medallion, and congratulatory letter from President Trump.
