Doctors are people too. In Behind the White Coat, Jefferson City Magazine takes readers beyond the practice to reveal the personal stories of local physicians.
Mark LaShell, MD, FAAAAI | Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology | JCMG
My name is Mark S. LaShell, and I’m excited to introduce myself as a board-certified allergist and immunologist with over 15 years of experience and 27 years total as a physician.
My journey to Jefferson City has been both fulfilling and inspiring. I grew up in Topeka, Kansas, and attended Washburn University. My passion for medicine led me to the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where I embraced the motto “heal, help, and learn.”
I started my career as a board-certified pediatrician and joined the United States Air Force soon after. I trained as a flight surgeon and eventually retired as a lieutenant colonel. One of my most memorable experiences in the Air Force was during a humanitarian mission. We were deployed to a remote area to provide medical care and air transport to a young child with severe asthma. Stabilizing the child and safely transporting them to a better-equipped facility was an incredible feat. It was at this moment that I made my decision to specialize in allergy and immunology.
Coupled with the stellar team at Jefferson City Medical Group, we have recently opened JCMG’s Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology division. My passion lies in improving my patients’ quality of life through individually tailored treatment options. As an allergist/immunologist, I am able to take care of patients of all ages, from infancy to older adulthood. I take great pride in providing compassionate care and effective solutions for those suffering from allergies and asthma.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending quality time with my amazing wife, Kat, and our two French bulldogs, Maui and Daisy. I’m an avid weightlifter, finding both mental and physical well-being through my workouts. Reading is another daily passion of mine, providing a balance to my active lifestyle.
We have quickly fallen in love with Jefferson City’s small-town charm, easy navigation, and the amenities it offers, making it an ideal place to call home. I’m thrilled to be part of the Jefferson City community and look forward to making a positive impact on the health and well-being of its residents.
