What is the name of your business? Lyla Stark, RE/MAX Jefferson City. What is your product or service? Helping families purchase their dream home.
When did your business get started? My husband was transferred here with the Missouri National Guard, and our realtor offered me a position. She thought I had the traits to be a very productive real estate agent. After selling five houses, I was hooked. My family gave me their full support.
What’s been your biggest struggle? Overcoming the fear of rejection. I learned through the book “The Power of Positive Thinking” that I could achieve almost anything I set my mind to.
Why did you decide to base your business in Jefferson City? It’s where we were living, and all of my spheres of influence are here.
How do you define success/celebrate a win? There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing that big smile on the face of my clients at closing. I celebrate by thanking the good Lord that I was chosen to represent them.
Three words that best describe you? Positive thinker, hard worker, and believer.
What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur? Believe in yourself, never giving up, and make it happen.
What’s your favorite part of your business? I love the flexibility and the power to help people achieve their personal goals.
What kind of culture exists in your business? I am an independent contractor, but being associatedwith a franchise organization, I have excellent support and training.

What sets you apart from the competition? I believe in goal setting, determination, and positive thinking.
How many employees? In the early years, I worked alone. As time went by, I needed a licensed assistant.
Any awards or notables we should know about? In 2020, I received the Circle of Legend Award for outstanding commissions earned. In 2018, I was inducted into the REBAC Hall of Fame and awarded at the National Realtors Association in Boston. In previous years, I’ve earned: ABR (Accredited Buyers Representative), GRI (Graduate of Realtor Institute), CRS (Certified Residential Specialist), RENE (Real Estate Negotiation Expert), and SRS (Seller Representative Specialist).
What are you most thankful for in your business? My support staff and clients.
How does your business benefit from operating in Jefferson City? It’s the people that make a good community. All businesses will thrive when the people support the community.
When someone is looking to hire a professional in your industry, what should they look for? Someone that they can trust with knowledge and experience and who is hard working.
