Jimmy Wheat: The Face of Vehicle, Boat, and Truck Wraps
I used to race late model race cars when Howard Schrock opened the Lake Ozark Speedway. While building a new car, I couldn’t get anyone to do the graphics. My wife said we would get a plotter and do it ourselves, so we did, and it has been quite a ride since. In 2004, we opened Pro DeZigns. One of my first clients was Denny Youngworth, owner and founder of Paint Dr.’s at the Lake of the Ozarks. I worked on his design for his truck at night after I would get off work from my second job at Target. This type of thing went on for a few months until I got a call from Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City about wrapping their fleet of ambulances. I told my wife if we get this contract, I’m putting in my two weeks. Later that week they called and said I got the contract and they wanted to start right away, so I put in my two weeks at Target. Since then, we have worked all over the United States and Canada with nascar teams, world of outlaw race teams, and we have wrapped drag cars in Australia. One of the first race cars we wrapped was for Windal Shorthose. At the time, we were struggling with our computer. He purchased our first design computer for us, telling us to pay him back when we could, and here we are today. Our first vehicle wrap was for Right Choice Siding, which took us six weeks to design, print, and install. Now, we can do this type of project within a few days!
People ask us, “What is the strangest thing you’ve wrapped?” Some of our other projects have included wrapping prosthetic limbs for military veterans, cranial helmets for children, urinals for restrooms, caskets, and airplanes, but our specialty is with walls, boats, and vehicle wraps. Our team of designers are incredibly talented as they collaborate together on creative elements, and our wrap installers are trained by a 3M preferred graphic installer to ensure the wraps look great and all projects are handled with care.
I remember when Pro DeZigns was an idea and from our humble beginnings in the third bedroom of our home. Now, we have a 10,000 square foot facility located in Eldon, Missouri. As for the future, we plan to expand our divisions to include wraps for interior walls, concrete walls, block walls, floors, and glass. We also hope to expand Pro DeZigns throughout the Midwest, bringing our level of expertise to new areas.
