“We love dog-friendly patios where we know Birdie will be as welcome as we are.“
–Hannah Kiddoo Frevert
Like many pet parents, we want our dog, Birdie, to have a happy life, and Jefferson City offers many spaces and places to make that happen. Here are a few of our favorites.
The Great Outdoors
When it comes to getting exercise, it’s hard to beat walks in our city parks. Birdie loves sniffing around at McKay Park, kayaking and befriending geese at Binder Park, and splashing in the water at Community Park. And it’s clear that she’s not alone, as we regularly meet other pups and their people taking advantage of these outdoor spaces. As a bonus, these locations have amenities for dogs, including low-to-the-ground water fountains and pet waste disposal bags. Birdie is also a regular at area golf courses, where she has fun walking nine or riding along in the cart (her name was actually inspired by the game). For more low-key exploration, the Governor’s Garden, tucked away between the Missouri State Capitol and the Governor’s Mansion, offers lush grass (perfect for Birdie to roll around in), beautiful blooms, and stunning views.
Treats and Eats
Did someone say snacks? We love dog-friendly patios where we know Birdie will be as welcome as we are. Whether we’re at new spots, like Crazy Fry’s, Sweet Smoke BBQ, and Ice Cream Factory, or a classic, like Paddy Malone’s, we appreciate the chance to bring our fur baby along. It’s also fun to know that some businesses, including Last Flight Brewing and Gumbo Bottoms, will even have treats especially for her. And speaking of treats, Birdie is always up for a visit to Premium Pets, where we can snag quality food and goodies while visiting with friendly staff.
Events and Adventures
Every day is an adventure with Birdie, and there are a few specific happenings we look forward to each year. At the end of summer, JC Parks hosts a Hot Dippity Dog event where pups and their parents are invited to dive into the Memorial Park pool together. Come fall, we head to Fischer Farms, where Birdie enjoys meeting barnyard animals and navigating the corn maze. But her true time to shine is during the annual wiener dog race at Oktoberfest in Old Munichburg.
Now get your paws moving and explore all our city has to offer!
