Husch Blackwell designs an office for functionality, comfort, and hospitality.
After spending over 30 years at their former downtown Jefferson City office, Husch Blackwell sought out the perfect location to create an office that exudes liveliness, brightness, and sophistication.
“This new building is three floors, and we selected it for its windows and natural light,” says Samantha Puckett, Husch Blackwell’s senior manager of architecture and design.
The interior of the office, located at 630 Bolivar St., was designed to emphasize texture and soft curves to achieve a refined, yet approachable, ambiance. This play on textures creates a common theme throughout the office while still giving each area its own unique personality and flair. Partners by Design, the designers behind the project, incorporated delightful elements such as unique wall coverings on the ceiling of the office’s Truman Lounge and Capitol Café to add an element of surprise. A delicate balance of black accents, greenery, and warm wood tones contributes to the inviting atmosphere, complemented by views of the Capitol through the large windows that flood the space with natural light, lending an openness to the environment.
Their selection of furniture also helps transform a traditional office layout into a space that feels homey and hospitable.
“A lot of folks who are returning to the office may be used to sending emails from the breakfast table or maybe taking a call in their living room or on the deck, wherever they could,” Samantha says. “At Husch Blackwell, they still have that flexibility and change of scenery.”
The office offers attorneys and staff the freedom to work from various environments beyond their private offices. One option is the “loungebrary,” a term Husch Blackwell uses to identify the space within the law library. With a casual coffee house setting, the loungebrary features two walls of glass for maximum natural light and is an open area where people can work, take breaks, hold impromptu meetings, or socialize. The loungebrary provides ample outlets for when people need to plug in their laptops and work, and state-of-the-art video conferencing technology is featured in the formal meeting spaces throughout the office, which fosters communications with clients and attorneys in other cities.

Attorneys and staff have expressed a heightened sense of pride in the new office because of its functionality and beauty.
“The curated art collection reflects Husch Blackwell’s commitment to creating a sense of place and support for artists in the community,” Samantha says. “The art celebrates diversity, with a focus on underrepresented and emerging artists, and integrates seamlessly with the design to blur the line between work and home. Through a collaboration with The Frame Shop, the firm was able to incorporate local art.”
The art media, including ceramics, textiles, photography, and collages, complements the sophisticated interior elements. Altogether, the interior design and art collection offers an uplifting and immersive experience for all.
