Spider-Man Homecoming – Pajamas, Pizza, and Popcorn
With the huge success of last month’s event, a black and white themed dance, the Day Solutions Foundation is already gearing up for their next fun filled afternoon. The families who attended found the venue, local hot spot Avenue HQ, to be more than accommodating for the nearly 100 friends, family, and adults with developmental disabilities whom the event was for. Thanks to the outstanding hospitality, handicap accessibility, and multipurpose nature of the location, the Foundation has decided to rebook the venue for their November event, Pajama’s and Pizza Movie Party. The set up for the event will include an 8×10 viewing screen and tables and chairs to accommodate guests, making it easy for everyone to enjoy their snacks and beverages.
Currently in our community, there are only a handful of organizations providing social engagement opportunities and events for adults with special needs. The cost to participate in such events can range from $25 for the year up to $60 for the season. DSF does a good deal of fundraising throughout the year, a portion of which goes toward quarterly events at no cost to participants. By doing so, the Foundation hopes this will open up the participation to those who may have financial difficulty. The upcoming party, which will be held on Sunday, November 19 from 2 to 4:30 p.m., will provide guests with popcorn, beverages, and two slices of fresh, hot pizza donated by Jefferson City Domino’s Pizza. Guests are encouraged to wear their PJs and are welcome to bring their own candy or other snacks.
DSF has purchased the rights to show Spider-Man Homecoming, with the anticipated DVD release date just a few days before the event. In this hit Spider-Man movie, Peter Parker faces off with a new villain, the Vulture, while trying to deal with high school life. The film has a run time of 2 hours and 15 minutes and is rated PG-13. As with the previous DSF event, participants will be required to register online by visiting the foundation’s website. However, individuals who have previously completed the registration process will not be required to complete the entire application again. A section has been added to the website to allow users who have already submitted the full application to simply add their name to the list and update any information which may have changed since the last submission. The event will be secured and wrist bands will be provided to both clients and families. Families of individuals with special needs are welcome to stay and enjoy the event as well or to drop off and pick up. The Foundation is also looking for volunteers to assist at the event. All volunteers over the age of 18 will receive a background check through the Family Care Safety Registry to ensure the safety and protection of attendees. Individuals or organizations wishing to volunteer their time at the event can also register online on the DSF website.
