Unveiling the power
of color analysis for personal style and expression.
Color analysis has become increasingly popular recently, thanks to a resurgence of this common practice from the 80s. Look through TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, or other social media outlets; posts regarding seasonal color matching are likely to pop up. Color analysis seeks to find the colors that harmonize with an individual’s natural coloring. Finding the optimal color palette can make one look more youthful, well-rested, and vibrant. Whether for weddings, job interviews, headshots, special events, social media influencing, self-improvement, or life changes, people are curious to know what colors will make them look their absolute best. Luckily, this can all be discovered in just a two-hour appointment.
House Of Colour’s analysis draws from a 35+ year-old process based on science. To understand this analysis, consultants go through robust, in-depth training to deliver personalized results. During a color analysis, consultants use their training and color drapes to determine which color palette (autumn, spring, summer, or winter) best complements each client. Each palette helps showcase natural physical features and creates a healthy glow against the skin. Consultants begin the analysis by identifying whether a client has warm or cool undertones. This helps to establish which seasonal color palette accentuates their features best. After discovering a season, consultants provide the client with information about their season and walk them through a 90-second makeup routine with powder, blush, and mascara that are in their season’s colors. To help show the client how they appear when their skin tone is not matched with a flattering neutral color, a before picture is taken without lipstick and with a white drape from the wrong season. Then, consultants apply at least three points of red lip colors from the clients’ season. These three lipstick colors help the skin appear more clear and brighten the eyes. At the same time that the client tries on lipsticks, consultants drape them in 36 different colors from their season, rating each as a one, two, or three. The drapes that are rated as three’s are what House Of Colour refers to as the client’s “wow colors.” Those wow colors are then draped over the client’s shoulders as they wear their favorite lip color, and an after picture is taken to show what a big impact the right colors can make on their overall look.
What if a particular color, especially black, is not a color that is in the client’s seasonal color palette? Consultants will never tell clients they can’t wear a color. The basis of a color analysis is to guide people on how to purchase pieces in a palette that best compliments their unique skin tones so that they feel most confident. If clients have a piece in a color outside of their season that they love and feel great in, they should continue to wear it. Color analyses are guidelines, not rules.
After determining the best seasonal palette and wow colors, clients receive a book with their personal color information, individual drape ratings, and a swatch book that contains precision-dyed fabric squares that match the drapes of their season. These swatches help clients identify their colors when shopping. While there are only 36 colors provided per season, clients are taught how to find other colors that are close to their palettes. Additionally, consultants advise clients on how to wear their palette colors, including head-to-toe looks and pops of color, and what accessories and hair colors work best with their unique skin tones.
Most people can relate to the confidence boost felt when looking their best. Finding the best colors and style through color analysis can help build a sustainable and versatile wardrobe that feels authentic. Furthermore, finding the best colors makes getting ready easier. Color analysis is for any age or gender and works for life, making it an investment that provides lifelong rewards.
