CITY FIT is a year-long program pairing local, certified personal trainers with community members who are serious about making lifestyle changes in 2021. In every issue, CITY Magazine will be documenting their journey, updating readers with not only the number on the scale, but also skeletal muscle mass, percentage of body fat, BMI, and photos. Talk about accountability! We’re excited for these trainers and individuals and can’t wait to see how they handle what each season brings. Get to know the participants, and help us cheer them on! This is CITY FIT.

What’s been your biggest lesson in nutrition?
Definitely portion control — the type of food I consume and the pace at which I consume it. It’s easy to overeat! Making sure that I eat my food slowly and not over-consuming is very important. Eating healthier, less processed  foods helps the weight come off.

When you want to give up or quit, what’s the motto you tell yourself to keep going?
I am going to be honest. The fact that my progress is public keeps me motivated. That’s OK and why I decided to take on the challenge. The other motivation is people noticing my weight loss and my clothes fitting so much better. The results keep me going.

What’s the best way you have found to track your nutrition?
Angela Bax posts nutrition ideas and meals every day in a group message on Facebook called 2021 GOALgetters. I will typically try to follow her nutrition plan to maintain a healthy, nutritional diet. Having these nutrition ideas makes it easy to plan ahead and takes the guessing out of what I’m going to eat — huge time saver.

What is your favorite dish and/or snack that Angela has recommended?
My favorite morning snack is the banana shake pancake. It satisfies my hunger while giving me the nutrition and energy that I need. It’s healthy and delicious!

What’s been your biggest lesson in nutrition?
My biggest lesson in nutrition is understanding what I’m putting in my body. I use the MyFitnessPal app, which helps to track the nutritional value of each thing you’re eating. Sometimes, I will look things up that I want to eat  to see if I feel like it’s worth it or not.

When you want to give up or quit, what’s the motto you tell yourself to keep going?
When I want to give up, I think about my kids. I want them to see me working out, eating well, and taking care of myself. I want them to be knowledgeable about it and have all of it incorporated into their lifestyles. I don’t want them to struggle like I am.

What’s the best way you have found to track your nutrition?
I use MyFitnessPal to track my nutrition.

What is your favorite dish and/or snack that Angela has recommended?
I have been trying to eat more protein. Erin Bidlack introduced me to Nuts’N More peanut butter spread. I like the birthday cake one. It’s great to eat a spoonful as dessert.

What’s been your biggest lesson in nutrition?
Enjoy what you eat, but do it in moderation!

When you want to give up or quit, what’s the motto you tell yourself to keep going?
Simply knowing where I was in my 20s. I want to return to that state of health and be more active for my family.

What’s the best way you have found to track your nutrition?
Having an accountability group that consists of a nutrition coach and other Studio573 members who keep you in line to make healthy food decisions.

What is your favorite dish and/or snack that Angela has recommended?
My favorite snack is a meal replacement shake.  The strawberry flavored shakes always taste great and are a healthy decision.
