Doctors are people too. In Behind the White Coat, Jefferson City Magazine takes readers beyond the practice to reveal the personal stories of local physicians.
Chandra Prasad, MD, FACS | Physician | Genesis Laser and Vein & Genesis Medspa
My name is Chandra Prasad, and I grew up in Oxford, Mississippi. My dad was a professor at The University of Mississippi, which was also where I attended undergraduate school for pre-med and electrical engineering. After graduating from The University of Mississippi, I attended Washington University Medical School and then St. Louis University Hospital for my surgery training. It was during this time that I met my wife, Barbara, and as the saying goes, “Marry a girl from Missouri, stay in Missouri!”
We moved to Jefferson City in 1996 and have raised four wonderful children together. Jefferson City, in my opinion, has been the best place to raise our family, more than we could have hoped. This community has been so supportive of me and my family, and we are very grateful for that. The best trait of Jefferson City is its generosity and charity to others. I had never seen a town work so hard to help empower its citizenry to succeed and aid others in a time of need.
My life philosophy is to learn something new every day. I believe that once you stop learning, you become mentally stagnant. As a physician, that would not be a good thing. I have tried to impart this to everyone I come into contact with. My career has taken many paths, but each has had its joys and pressures. I would not change a thing.
At Genesis, we strive to be the best every day. But more than that, we know that we must give back to the community that supports us. For me, the most rewarding thing is helping people live healthier, happier lives. I am also grateful that we can support a wide variety of local organizations that empower people to live better lives.
