Capital Region Physicians is pleased to welcome Amy Wyatt to Capital Region Physicians Internal Medicine. Wyatt joined Capital Region Physicians on May 1. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Central Methodist University and went on to complete her Master of Science in nursing, adult gerontology nurse practitioner, at Maryville University. Wyatt holds an MBA in health care administration from Western Governors University and served as a home therapy RN for Fresenius Medical Care.
Capital Region Physicians is proud to announce Dr. William “Russ” Carpenter has been selected to receive the 2020 President’s Award by the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, or MAOPS.
The President’s Award is presented to a young physician (with fewer than ten years of practice) who is nominated by the MAOPS president and approved by both the MAOPS Awards Committee and the MAOPS Board of Trustees. Carpenter receives this distinction for his work on the physician wellness committee, as medical director for the MAOPS Physician Health Program, and as faculty on the MAOPS physician wellness team. Carpenter is a graduate of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He practices psychiatry at Capital Region Physicians Center for Mental Wellness.
Capital Region Medical Center welcomes Dr. Sarah Dunn, obstetrician and gynecologist, to Capital Region Physicians Women’s Health. Dunn received her medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Missouri. Dunn is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Prior to joining Capital Region, Dunn served as a general OB/GYN at Perry County Memorial Hospital. She has also been serving Capital Region on a locum basis.
Dreams to Reality is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The nonprofit was formally incorporated on November 15, 2000, to help disadvantaged women secure interview and career appropriate attire. In 2016, the organization moved to 500 Jefferson Street and added a retail space to generate funds that help purchase required employment standard items not ordinarily donated. To celebrate, customers can sign up for in-store gift certificate giveaways at their retail store.
A USS Michigan (SSGN 727) Blue Crew sailor was announced as the fiscal year 2019 Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet Sea Sailor of the Year. Machinists mate, nuclear power first class, Britany Allette Acker, from Wardsville, was selected for her exemplary performance throughout the year 2019 and her sustained superior performance as a leader for the past five years. Having served in the Navy for eight years. Acker was selected for the Enlisted Women in Submarines Program after working as a junior staff instructor at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, South Carolina.
Missouri River Regional Library named Kathlene Woodruff as Volunteer of the Year. Woodruff completed three years as president of the MRRL Foundation. The foundation has helped provide Wi-Fi hotspots, 3D printers, and computers for the library and paid for programs such as reading buddies and other social events.
Missouri River Regional Library also named Stu Murphy as the 2020 Ambassador of the Year. Murphy, a longtime board member, was MRRL board president from 2016 to 2017 and served on the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Commission and YMCA Board of Directors. Murphy still regularly volunteers as a storytime reader and helps with the annual book sale.
Capital Arts and Jefferson City Parks and Recreation have announced Leann Porrello will be overseeing all the community arts in Jefferson City as the cultural arts specialist. When Leann moved to Missouri in 2012, she volunteered at Capital Arts and became the executive assistant. In 2016, she became executive director and developed cultural arts programs, community events and worked as staff liaison to the Jefferson City Cultural Arts Commission. Porrello is an active member of the community joining the Jefferson City Art Club and many organizations.
Carrie Russell was recently recognized for 25 years of service with C&S Business Services Inc. As a C&S staffing coordinator, Carrie works with clients to locate qualified employees and professional candidates. She is American Staffing Association Employment Law Accreditation certified, a NAPS certified temporary staffing specialist, and an ASA certified staffing professional. She was presented a plaque for her service.
