What is your product or service? Servicing the community one tan and mortgage at a time. My tanning business provides customized, personally applied tanning and at-home products such as self-tanners and body scrubs. As a lender, I provide mortgage loans to individuals looking for their forever home as a primary, rental, or vacation home.
When and how did your business get started? My tanning business began in 2013. As an avid sunless tanner, I wanted to offer higher quality service, product, and experience. My mom had gone through her third round of skin cancer, and I thought this would be something I could provide women as a way to healthier tanning and at the same time feel even more beautiful. As for the mortgage world, I’ve actually been in the financial world since 2003. I started as a teller and worked my way to a branch manager with experience in business portfolios, investments, personal banking, and lending. The two ventures have the same sentiment of having the ability to make my clients feel at ease, as well as my ability to think outside the box has earned me a stellar reputation among my clientele.
What’s been your biggest struggle? The area I’ve struggled with the most is what I actually strive for the most in my business, which is making an impact in the lives of those I work with. Contribution to my clientele and the community is what drives my work the most. I think of the edge I take myself, to remain educated, relevant, and expansive for both businesses, as key to my success.
What’s your favorite part of your business? My favorite part of both businesses has got to be hands down the people. Each person I’ve been able to help, either financially or esthetically, has left a mark on my life with their support, return business, referrals, and at times friendship. That’s irreplaceable.
What sets you apart from your competition? With both businesses, I’d have to say my attention to detail, communication in what is expected from the client, and the hard work and talent to make it happen.
Any advice for those just getting started? Don’t be afraid to start, don’t overthink it, move past the planning stage, and validate your ideas — they’re better than you think!
