Embracing luxury in this secluded country home.
| a. Lake | Nestled on 19 acres in the serene countryside, this stunning home features a picturesque lake lined with natural Kansas limestone, creating a tranquil and rustic shoreline. The lake, stocked with bass and catfish, offers the homeowner an ideal spot for leisurely fishing or simply enjoying the peaceful waterscape. Sometimes, a family of deer and Tom the turkey can be spotted roaming the property.
| b. & c. Deck & Pool | The beautiful landscape continues to the back of the home, where the heated pool and large back deck provide the perfect environment for parties and entertaining. For those quiet nights spent at home, the deck’s secluded location is great for having dinner outside or just enjoying a nice glass of wine as the sun sets.
| d. Entrance | At the entrance of the home, about 60 loads of dirt were used to raise the garden and create a serene walkway using Alabama flat stone and Colorado rock. The landscape contains several unique shrubs and trees that have been collected over the years.
“We started planting different trees that I like from different states,” the homeowner says. “Whenever I go on a trip, I buy a tree and then bring it back and plant it.”
| a. & b. Living Area | The open living area is the ultimate gathering space, featuring a vaulted ceiling, a Steinway piano, artwork and lighting from Hockman Interiors, and solid walnut flooring with 16-inch planks. These planks help direct the eyes straight back to the view outside, where the 12-foot stackable glass door can completely open to the back deck. When hosting large parties, the living area has ample seating, including a white leather sectional that was imported from Italy and a pair of brown leather aviator lounge chairs thatare placed in a little nook near the back windows.
| c. Dining Area | Tucked between the living area and the kitchen, the dining area presents a large table that can seat up to 14 people or can be used as a buffet. On top of that, this custom-made table rises up in the center to be used as a surprise dessert table or Champagne bar. When it’s not being used for parties, the table also offers an ideal spot to store dishware.
| d. Kitchen | The kitchen features a colossal island that can be used as a cooking space, a prep area, or seating for dinner parties. The 60-inch Tuscany Viking range has eight burners and two ovens, and the cutting block is made of over 300 pieces of extra wood from the flooring. If one needs to throw something away, the kitchen features openings on each countertop where items can be tossed in the bin below instead of having to open and close a cabinet or garbage can. The kitchen also features soft-close white cabinets that were hand-crafted by Wayne Schmidt, who also built the home’s hidden butler’s pantry, appliance garage, and accent ceiling.
| a. & b. Master Bedroom & Walk-In Closet | The master bedroom was meticulously designed to showcase an open and clean concept, emphasizing simplicity and elegance. A hidden TV discreetly blends above the fireplace, maintaining the room’s uncluttered appearance, and the walk-in closet is cleverly tucked away behind the master bathroom. Having a separate dressing room allows for more than enough space to put in custom drawers and shelving keep everything well organized as well as a full washer and dryer and a laundry chute that leads to the downstairs laundry room. Aside from the bedroom having a clean concept, it was also designed to feel sleek and luxurious with bullnose trim baseboards, chic built-in lighting, an electric fireplace, and remote-controlled blinds.
| c. Bathroom | Designed to resemble bathrooms at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, the bathroom contains a soaking tub, built-in walnut shelving, and a candy drawer stocked with Kit-Kats, PayDays, granola bars, and Hershey’s chocolate.
“It’s so you don’t have to run all the way across the home to get a snack,” the homeowner says. “You can come right in here, and then underneath the drawer it has a refrigerator and storage on the side.”
The bathroom also features a steam shower and an electronic European toilet, which handles every sanitary need with just a click of a button.
| d. Entertainment Room | The downstairs entertainment room happens to be one of the homeowner’s favorite spaces in the entire house; it contains a giant flat-screen TV, sectional couch, fireplace, pool table, and a built-in bar. Additionally, the basement has two extra bedrooms and a mother-in-law suite. With so many custom features that help make life a little more delightful, it’s easy to see why this custom country home is a beloved gathering spot.
“This house was a fun project,” the homeowner says. “Coming home, it’s nice, quiet, stress-free, and you can see wildlife pretty much every night. And then the home is really nice and open where people can come here and enjoy themselves. Each area of the house brings joy and comfort.”
