Doctors are people too. In Behind the White Coat, Jefferson City Magazine takes readers beyond the practice to reveal the personal stories of local physicians.
Aimee Lorenz, MD | Pediatrics | MU Health Care
My name is Aimee Lorenz. I’ve always wanted to be a physician since I was 6 years old. Growing up as a daddy’s girl, I truly idolized my dad, who was a pediatrician, so I decided to become a pediatrician as well.
I was born in Chicago, Illinois, when my dad was in his last year of medical school. We moved to Iowa City, Iowa, for his pediatric residency at the University of Iowa and then settled in Sioux City, IA, where he joined a private pediatric clinic.
I lived most of my life in Sioux City but followed my dad’s footsteps and attended the University of Iowa for my undergraduate degree, medical school, and my pediatric residency. I then moved back home where I joined both my dad and mom (a CPN, ARPN) at the same pediatric clinic. I worked alongside my parents for almost 20 years until they retired.
I recently moved to the Lake of the Ozarks and joined MU Health Care’s Pediatrics Clinic in Jefferson City. As a pediatrician, I love that I can be a part of my patients’ lives — keeping them healthy, protecting them with preventative care, educating their families, and helping them become healthy, productive, and overall good people as they transition into their adult lives.
Most importantly, when establishing treatments and health care plans for my patients, I listen to parents and recognize that they know their children better than anyone. I always make sure parents fully understand our plans moving forward after their child’s visit and take the time to explain why each step is necessary. Clear communication and collaboration with parents are key to providing the best care for children.
Besides relaxing, I enjoy art, landscaping, gardening, and just being on the lake.
