The Southside String Quartet is comprised of the principal string players in the Southside Philharmonic Orchestra (with the exception of Grant Bradshaw; Morgan Owen is principal violist for SPO).
These exceptionally talented musicians found each other at the MU School of Music and “connected right away” and began working together as a synthesized team with great sympathy to the musical ideas that each brings to the whole. Their program of core masterpieces in the string quartet repertoire that they play under the aegis of the Southside Philharmonic Concert Series, marks an important step toward their future as a continuing ensemble. Turina’s work La oración del torero is worthy of mention as an example of dramatic 20th century repertoire that has a programmatic basis, “The prayer of the bullfighter.”
