Local company provides Thanksgiving meal
On Friday, November 17th, local office supply company, Schriefer’s Office Equipment, provided and served a full Thanksgiving meal including turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade stuffing, desserts, and more to an eager, and very grateful, group of clients at Day Solutions, Inc. Day Solutions, a day habilitation program for adults with developmental disabilities, has a total of 24 clients and is a customer of Schriefer’s since their doors opened in 2015. This is the third year the team at Day Solutions hosted a meal to allow all clients the opportunity to experience a true family-style Thanksgiving. The meal, which was previously provided by the Day Solutions Foundation, was still in the planning stages when Schriefer’s Office called and asked if they could help.

The Schriefer family started the company in 1945 providing typewriters and calculators to Jefferson City businesses and residents and continues to do so for over 50 years. In 1996, the company was acquired by David Wilde and Becky Heinrich who expanded the business to offer office supplies as well, quickly becoming known as, “The Go to Guys.” Schriefer’s, which started out in a 300-square foot building on Jefferson St., today finds its home in a 10,000-square foot building fully equipped to serve its customers. Sales Manager, Joe Bernskoetter, who has been with the company for 17 years, says they are known for being a local company providing excellent service to local businesses at a competitive price. Now employing a total of 12 people, Schriefer’s prides itself on having a highly experienced staff that focuses on providing great customer service. To top it off, the company provides next day delivery, with no minimum order – which means no braving the cold weather, waiting in line, or searching the entire store for one item. Placing an order with Schriefer’s is as simple as picking up the phone, sending an email, or browsing the online catalog and always getting to talk with someone you know and trust. When asked about why they chose to contact Day Solutions, Joe said the company is wanting to get more involved with its customers and other local groups, “We believe in what Day Solutions does and the people they serve, and we wanted to show our support.” The Schriefer’s team even got to serve a few of the JCPD officers who also frequent the facility to read to and visit with the clients.
Facts provided by a company known as the 350 Project, which promotes shopping local, shows that locally owned, independent merchants return 68% of their local income back to the local economy verses only 43% of money returned back to the local economy by nationally owned chains.
